Throughout the 20th century, the village of Oliete (Bajo Aragón, Spain) slowly became more uninhabited, leaving thousands of abandoned olive trees. My great-grandparents also left this village to look for a better life in the big city.
In 2014, Alberto Alfonso and José Alfredo Martín launched a project to rehabilitate these century-old olive trees, by producing oil from them.
During my quest for premium olive oils, I discovered this duo and immediately fell in love with their project. This is undoubtedly a very special initiative that simultaneously brings unique abandoned plantations back to life and pays homage to my ancestors.
